Intramurals Begin
Monday, August 30
Sessions will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for all grades. Friday will be for 7th
and 8th grade "Birdie Bashers" badminton club. The school doors do not open until 8:15am.
Intramurals end at 8:45. The calendar of activities is located in the gym foyer by the boy's locker
room.

Does your child need to take medication while at school?
All medication, including over-the-counter
medications, must be in the original container and brought to school by a parent/guardian.
All prescription medication must have the student's name and prescribing information on the container.
Please do not send medication in plastic baggies! Questions can be directed to the school
nurse, Mary Ortland, at 770-578-2739.
Pinnacle Parent Internet Viewer (PIV)
Parents
may do pick up their Pinnacle passcode Monday-Friday from 10am-3pm in the Dogen front office.
Parents please have your photo ID in order to pick up your code. You do not need a new passcode
if you have one from last year.
The Rules Have Changed: Help your child make healthy choices.
Please join us for the Program on
Abstinence in the Dodgen auditorium on Thursday, September 2 at 7pm.
This program is for both Parents and Teens. There will be a free book on parenting to the
first 50 families.

15th Annual East Cobber Parade & Festival
Saturday, September 11
Parade begins at 10am from
the Mt. Bethel Elementary School parking lot traveling south on Johnson Ferry Road to the
Fountains of Old Towne shopping center. 7th & 8th grade Chorus and Beta Club students are invited
to march in the parade in honor of our teacher of the year Chris Whittington. Time and location

6th Grade Dance
September 30 from 4:15-6pm
Food and Drinks will be
available for purchase at the dance. Tickets will be sold in the 6thgrade pod for $3.00 September
27-29.

Reflections Program
Deadline to submit is Thursday, September 16
Each year, the PTA Reflections Program challenges students to create art inspired by a specific
theme. The theme this year is: Together We Can.” . To find specific Reflections program information
go to the Dodgen webpage and click on PTSA and then go to the links on the left of the page and
click on“Programs."

PTSA General Meeting & Open House
6th Grade - Tuesday, August 17 at 6:30pm
7th & 8th Grades - Thursday, August 19 at 6:30pm
PINNACLE is an information site set up for you and your child to stay up to date
on their academic progress throughout the school year. The site is secure and password
protected. PINNACLE
information will be available in the gym beginning at 5:45 p.m. before Open Houses Tuesday for 6th
grade parents and Thursday for 7th and 8th grade parents. Parents must have a photo
ID in order to pick up your PINNACLE passcode. If your family already has a PINNACLE account
and code, you do not need to pick up a new one.
The Beta Club will hold its 1st meeting on August
19 at 8:00 in the morning. One of the sponsors will meet members at the
student entrance. All other meetings will begin at 8:15. Meetings will be held on
the 3rd Thursday of each month (except December - no meeting).
New Parent Tea
Tuesday, August 24 at 9:30am. Administration
and PTSA will be there to answer your questions about how Dodgen works.

Early Dismissal
On Wednesday, August 25, 2010 and Wednesday, February 2, 2011 all
Cobb County students will be dismissed two hours early for district-wide teacher training.
Buses will begin their normal routes at the early dismissal time. After-School Programs for
elementary schools will begin immediately after early dismissal. These early release dates
are not included in the Parent Information Guide, so please update your calendars with these important
dates.

8th grade parents
Please look for a letter that came home last week with your student about an opportunity
to take French 1 or Latin 1 at Walton. Walton is pleased to announce that the Middle School
Extended Day Foreign Language Program will begin its fourteenth year this fall. If you
have any questions or need further information, please contact Walton High School.
PTSA Orders
You can still pre-order a directory, purchase memberships, calendars and
vocabulary books (6th & 7th). Order forms are available in the front lobby. Please return your
completed form with payment to school. The items you order will be delivered to your student.

School Store
The store is open in the morning from 8:40-9:10. Vocabulary books for 6th & 7th
are $10. Book covers are $1- $1.50. Dodgen magnets and calendars are $5. Exact change or
small bills are always appreciated.
Spiritwear is available in the school store or by order form.

Bus Information
Beginning August 5, 2010, bus drivers will allow ALL students K-12, to bring water ONLY on the bus during
their AM & PM bus rides. Water containers should have a secure twist-on lid. No cups with snap on
lids and no straws please. CCSD will follow this protocol until further notice. We anticipate following
this protocol through the month of September. Buses will operate with windows fully open and utilizing
roof hatches in the correct position to optimize air flow.

Walton Latin & French
Information and registration forms for the 8th grade early morning classes are
being distributed this week. Completion of the class provides a full year of high school
language credit. Completed registration forms should be returned to the Walton front
desk by Friday, August 13th. Classes begin August 16th.
The 14U Pope Jr. Greyhounds Baseball Team will have makeup tryouts on Sunday,

Panther Day

Meet your homeroom teacher, get bus routes, pick up Pre-orders, purchase Spiritwear and vocabulary
books, put money in lunch account and support Dodgen PTSA with your membership. Please note
that you will need separate checks or cash for these items.
Yearbook Pictures are taken on Panther Day
Please have your student wear school appropriate attire for their photo. Spaghetti straps
and low cut tops will not be allowed. Students who do not have their yearbook photo taken on Panther
Day will not have the opportunity for retakes of their yearbook photo.
Nominations for Dodgen School Council
The Dodgen School Council is accepting nominations to fill two open positions -- a parent
representative and a business parent representative. To serve as a parent representative,
a parent/guardian must have one or more children enrolled in Dodgen. To serve as a business
parent representative, a parent/guardian must have one or more children enrolled in Dodgen and
also be a business person. Council membership involves participation in regular meetings,
a two-year term, and the willingness to be an active representative of the Dodgen community. If
you are interested in serving as a parent or business parent representative or you would like to
nominate a representative for the Dodgen School Council for the 2010 and 2011 school years, please
stop by the Dodgen front office or download a nomination form. For more information,

In an effort to minimize heat related illnesses that occur on school buses, the following

Volunteers Urgently Needed on Panther Day
Wednesday, August 4
PTSA needs parent and student volunteers to help fill “First Day Folders” in the Dodgen
Cafeteria on Tuesday, August 3, starting at 9:00am. It should take about 2 hours if we
have enough volunteers. This is a great opportunity for Beta Club students to earn
service hours. If you or your student are able to assist, please contact Ann Kriscovich
at treasurer @ dodgenptsa.org. We thank you in advance for your support. We are still in need
of parent volunteers during each of the following shifts:
Shift 1 - 9:30am - 10:45am
Shift 2 - 10:45am - 12:00pm
Shift 3 - 12:00pm - 1:15pm

receive and email with shift confirmation and work location.
2010-11 Bus Route Information
CCSD bus routes are available online at www.cobbk12.org. This includes pick up locations and
bus arrival times for all grades.
School Supplies
There were errors in the supply list in the Dateline PTSA Newsletter. Please go to the
Dodgen Middle School web site www.cobbk12.org/Dodgen for the correct supplies list. The supplies
needed are listed by grade level in the middle of the home page.
Pope Jr. Greyhounds Baseball Program
The new Pope Jr. Greyhounds Baseball program will
begin its first season of play in Spring of 2011. Tryouts for the 14U team are Sunday,
August 1 at Pope H.S. baseball field. To be eligible for the 14U team, players must be
14 yrs old or under as of 4/30/2011 (a few select 13U aged players may be eligible to "play
up").
Especially needed are talented pitchers and outfielders. Advanced registration is required
– no walk-ups accepted for tryouts. More information and online registration available
